Michelle A. Kahn, MD, FAAD
Meet our Founder, Dr. Michelle A. Kahn, a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-Trained in Hair Restoration and skin cancer. She is recognized for her highly personalized, evidence-based approach to medical, cosmetic, and hair restoration dermatology. Blending academic rigor with aesthetic nuance, she delivers treatment plans designed not only to optimize clinical outcomes, but to restore confidence and empower patients to feel fully at home in their skin and hair.
With advanced training across all skin tones and hair types, Dr. Kahn treats the full spectrum of medical, cosmetic, and hair restoration dermatology, with particular expertise in female and male hair loss, regenerative skin and hair therapies, laser medicine, and procedural dermatology. Her approach is grounded in thoughtful diagnosis, natural-appearing results, and a philosophy of strategic, long-term skin and hair health.
Education and Training
Dr. Kahn graduated Summa Cum Laude from Barnard College of Columbia University, where she was inducted into the distinguished Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She received her medical degree with Distinction in Research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honors Society.
Dr. Kahn completed her internal medicine internship at Mount Sinai Hospital and her dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate, where she held the position of Chief Resident in her final year.
She did a research fellowship in skin cancer diagnostics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and pursued advanced fellowship training in medical and surgical hair restoration under the mentorship of Dr. Marc Avram, one of the country’s foremost authorities in hair restoration and transplantation.
Academic Appointments
Dr. Kahn currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she is actively involved in resident education and mentorship in both medical and cosmetic dermatology.
Research and Professional Recognition
Dr. Kahn’s academic interests center on hair biology, regenerative therapeutics, laser medicine, and the intersection of systemic health and follicular aging. She has presented her research at national and global dermatology conferences and has authored work in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. She has also been awarded prestigious preceptorship scholarships from both the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, recognizing her excellence in procedural dermatology.
Dr. Kahn is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
Personal
Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Kahn enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, and their very fluffy and devoted cavapoo. She loves Oscar-nominated films and the occasional Hallmark movie. She believes that confidence, like great skin and hair, is not found but built thoughtfully and nurtured over time. That belief is the quiet foundation of everything at MAK Dermatology.
